• The Friends of the Pittsboro Memorial Library will open its fall season with Lee Smith, well- known North Carolina author. Her novels and short stories include Fair and Tender Ladies, Oral History, and most recently, The Last Girls. The program is Tuesday, September 14, at 7:30 pm at the Chatham County Courthouse in downtown Pittsboro.

• AlexSandra “Sandy Lynn” Lett of Sanford will autograph her third nostalgia book, “Timeless Moons, Seasons of the Fields and Matters of the Heart” at the Silk Hope Old Fashioned Farmer’s Day. She will be there from 9 am to 6 pm on Saturday and from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

• The Siler City Business and Professional Women’s Club will meet at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, September 9 at Bestfood Cafeteria Banquet Room. Tina Meeks, Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator at the Chatham County Housing Authority will be guest speaker. Members and guests are asked to proceed through the cafeteria line upon arrival. The public is invited.

• Jordan-Matthews High School Class of 1984 will hold their 20-year class reunion on September 25, 2004. For more information, contact Jill at 663-0914 or Tonya at 742-4076 before September 12, 2004. Hope to see everyone there.

• Horton High School alumni, called meeting for planning the upcoming 2005 Reunion of the Classes is scheduled for Saturday, September 18, 2004 at 5 p.m. at the Pittsboro Memorial Library. All persons willing to assist in the planning are invited to attend.

• The Moring Arts Center first Tea of the Season highlights “The History of Silk & Metal Thread Embroidery through the Ages” on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 from 3-4 pm. Randolph Arts Guild is pleased to feature Janis Mason lecturing, which will begin about 3:20 pm after refreshments are served. Admission is free (a $5.00 donation is appreciated for the tea fund) and the public is welcome. RSVPs are not required but appreciated by calling Randolph Arts Guild, 336-629-0399.

• Robert Kurson, author of the national bestseller, Shadow Divers, will be appearing at McIntyre’s Fine Books, Pittsboro, for a talk and signing on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. 

•  A special showing of he “Millworker,” is scheduled for the NC Museum of Art Amphitheatre in Raleigh, September 18 at 8:00 pm. Ticket information at 919-715-5923.

•  The Chatham County Soil and Water Conservation District meets the second Thursday of the month (09-09-04) at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference room downstairs in the Agricultural Building in Pittsboro. This is an open meeting. For additional information, contact our office at 919-542-8240.

• Beggars and Choosers of Pittsboro will re-open Friday night, September 10,  from 7-10 pm after extensive renovations.

•  Saturday, Sept. 4, Open Gospel Pickin’ at Reno Sharpe’s Store from 10 am until… Located on the corner of Goldston-Pittsboro Rd.,  and Reno Sharpe Store Rd. between Pittsboro and Goldston. If you pick, bring your instrument (acoustic instruments only). Free and open to the public.

• Every Wednesday at 10:30, Pre-School  Storytime at McIntrye’s. For more information, call Sarah at (919) 542-3030.

• The Friends of the Pittsboro Memorial Library art gallery shows begins the fall season,   with the September and October exhibit, French Art and Textiles from the Pittsboro retailer French Connections.
