Jet soccer team completes sweep over Central By Anthony Holderied SILER CITY– Jordan-Matthews pulled out its second straight season sweep of county foe Chatham Central on Monday, besting the Bears 6-1 in Siler City. The Jets (6-4) earned a Yadkin Valley Conference victory with the decisive win, after piling up a 5-0 half-time lead over the struggling Bears. "This was a good game for us," J-M coach Paul Cuadros said after the game. "We passed the ball around a lot and set up plays for the forwards and midfielders to score. There was a lot of unselfish play tonight and I am real proud of this team." Jordan-Matthews controlled the contest from the outset, passing and setting up many shots on goal during the first half. Chatham Central’s only goal came 20 minutes into the second half with the outcome having already been decided. The goal of the night came by Jordan-Matthews forward Francisco Morales, who battled back from a torn ACL during the offseason, to return to his first action of the year on Monday.
Perry's huge runs pace NW By Anthony Holderied PITTSBORO – Rodney Perry pulled a Devon Moore on the Cedar Ridge Red Wolves on Friday night. The Northwood slasher-back tore off two huge runs in the fourth quarter to outshine the state’s top rusher, in an 18-14 come-from-behind victory for the Chargers. In the key Mid-State 2-A confrontation, Northwood (5-2) stunned the seemingly in control Red Wolves, as Perry dashed for scores of 89 and 53 yards in the fourth quarter to help the Chargers end a two-game skid. "It was a big win; it got us back on the winning track," Northwood coach Bill Hall said. "Perry came in and really pulled one out for us." The 140-pound junior tailback finished with 147 yards on just 12 carries for the game, nearly accounting for half of Northwood’s 311 rushing yards. Perry’s performance was unexpected as most in attendance were anticipating big things from Moore, the state’s leading rusher coming in for the Red Wolves. The Chargers got all they could handle from Moore, who came into the contest averaging nearly 190 yards per game. The Red Wolves sophomore ripped off 153 of his team’s 185 yards on 32 carries, including two first-half touchdown runs.
