By Mary John Resch
I know that at this time of year, many of you are trying to prepare items to sell at Fall Festivals and Church Bazaars. Both of these recipes should be popular with anyone who has a sweet tooth. The problem with these items around my house will be hiding them so that they are not eaten before they can be delivered to be sold!
MOCK BABY RUTH BARS(Yield 24)
4 cups oatmeal 1 cup brown sugar ¼ cup light corn syrup ¼ cup peanut butter 1 teaspoon vanilla extract ¾ cup butter, softened
Topping: 6 ounces chocolate chips 3 ounces butterscotch bits 2/3 cup peanut butter
Combine oatmeal, brown sugar, corn syrup, ¼ cup peanut butter, vanilla extract, and butter. Spread in a greased 9x13-inch pan. Bake in a 400° oven for 12 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately spread with mixture of chocolate chips, butterscotch bits, and 2/3 cup peanut butter. Cut into pieces.
CANDY ‘TURTLES’
4-5 pecan halves per turtle 1 caramel square per turtle 1 cup chocolate chips
Remove paper from caramels and melt about 6 caramels for 15 seconds. Place melted caramel over pecans (placed on flat surface). Use 1 caramel per turtle. Melt chocolate chips for 3 minutes at level 50 and spread over caramel and pecans. Continue procedure until you have as many “turtles” as desired.
