• The Silk Hope Ruritan Club will hold its fall American Red Cross blood drive on Friday, October 15 from 2:30 until 7:30 p.m. at the Silk Hope Ruritan Club building located at 8110 Silk Hope-Gum Springs Road. • The Chatham County Public Health Department and Community Diabetes Advocates are holding a diabetes support group on October 11 at 6:30 pm at Family Resource Center, 225 Chatham Square. The topic will be medications and diabetes. Speaker will be pharmacist, Stephen Joyce of Siler City Pharmacy. There will be a discussion on the challenge of living with diabetes. • Child Care Networks, Inc. will be sponsoring a family oriented literacy event aimed at encouraging literacy in young children and families. Free and open to the public. • The annual Lions Club Pancake Breakfast will be held Saturday, October 16, from 7:00 am until 11:00 am at First United Methodist church Fellowship Hall, located at 1101 West Raleigh Street in Siler City. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, children 6-12, $2.50 and under 6 eat free. |

• The Hispanic Liaison and NAACP are teaming up to set up a voter registration table at Siler City Wal-Mart on Thursday, October 7 from 9 am to 12 pm. |

• Building a partnership with your child’s teacher; how to work together, parent and teacher, for your child’s success in school. A meeting for parents and caregivers to come together and learn, talk and share about how to accomplish this. Sponsored by Chatham County Together’s Family Advocacy Program. October 14 at Chatham County Together! in Siler City, 104 ½ South Chatham Avenue at 6:30 – 8 pm. Pizza and soda will be served for dinner and childcare will be available. • Chatham County Together! volunteer orientation and mentor training, Tuesday, October 12, 5:30-8:30 at the Wren Memorial Library. A light meal will be served. Learn to become a friend and role model for youth ages 6-17 in Chatham County. For more information or to reserve a spot, call 542-5155. |

• Farm Fun Day will be held on Saturday, October 9 from 10 am to 3 pm at the National Guard Armory in Siler City. Fun for the entire family. FREE Admission. |

• The Jordan-Matthews PTA will meet on Monday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend. |

• Join a park ranger at Parker’s Creek Beach at 1 pm and paddle a canoe on the Parker’s Creek Pond at Jordan Lake on October 16 and 17. Schedule two hours for this event. No experience necessary. Participants must be least 12 years old; anyone under 16 years must have a parent or guardian participating. Pre-registration required. Call 919-362-0586 to register. |

• Friday Walking Series at Jordan Lake, spend some time outside, get some exercise, learn something new, and explore the state park. Meet a park ranger at 2 pm, October 15, Ebenezer’s Old Oak Trail (Area A) – easy – 1 mile. Wear appropriate shoes and dress for the weather. |
