Jordan Lake changes face of
county .
. .
Boating, fishing and other
forms of water recreation are a big draw for Jordan Lake. Years
ago when the project was being discussed, the prospect of plenty of
water was another enticement for Chatham County support the proposal.
Today, the county has an allocation of 6 million gallons of water
a day but uses only about one million. Development of a countywide
water system would increase that daily use considerably.
Chatham Pharmacy closes its
pharmacy department
By Cara Rotondaro
The pharmacy at Chatham Pharmacy in Siler
City was closed on Tuesday after a mutual agreement was made between
store owner Eugene Simmons and the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
According to Simmons, the pharmacy was
closed because the store did not have a licensed pharmacist-manager.
Simmons, who opened the pharmacy more than
a year ago, said that he had been “unable to secure proper management
for the pharmacy department.”
According to Simmons, he possibly will
close the store completely in the near future because he needed to take
care of personal business. He added that he had been unable to find an
appropriate pharmacy manager.
“People who have prescriptions that they
need to fill can take their bottles elsewhere in the next couple of
weeks and the new pharmacy can made the appropriate transfers,” he said.

County to sell lake water for development
By Randall Rigsbee
Chatham County commissioners last week
agreed to sell 27 million gallons of raw Jordan Lake water to Colvard
Farms, a subdivision in northeast Chatham off NC 751, for the developer
to fill a pond.
Commissioners unanimously voted during
their Oct. 18 meeting to sell the untreated water to Colvard Farms at a
cost of 30 cents per 1,000 gallons.
“That’s water that during the wintertime
goes over the dam into the Cape Fear,” said commissioner Bunkey Morgan.
“We don’t use it.”
County manager Charlie Horne said this
isn’t the first time the county has sold water for such purposes, noting
that untreated Jordan Lake water has been used for irrigation.

County to consider revising
impact fee
By Eliot Duke
PITTSBORO
– Fred Couples and Davis Love III have
competed against each other for many years on the PGA tour.
Recently, Couples hasn’t had much success
against his counterpart – until now.
On Monday afternoon, Couples arrived in
Pittsboro to get his first look at his latest project.
Chapel Ridge will be the latest Couples
venture into the world of golf course design, as the former Master’s
winner got a tour of the rolling terrain that will be transformed into
Chatham County’s latest addition.
"I haven’t beaten Davis Love lately in any
golf tournaments, but I sure got him beat here compared to up there I
think," Couples said in front of a crowd of developers and media
overlooking what will soon be Chapel Ridge. "That’s not to say anything
about Blue Green, but what a spot."
Couples is referring to The Preserve, a
golf course recently opened at Jordan Lake that has turned into a huge
success.
