• Preschool Storytime, every Wednesday from 10 – 11 am at Spectacle Books, 113 Siler Crossing Shopping Center in Siler City.  

• Board Members Wanted – Chatham Trades is looking for community minded adults to serve on the Board of Directors. As a private, not-for-profit, community rehabilitation program, Chatham Trades provides employment, vocational training, and job placement and support for Chatham County adults with disabilities. Board members volunteer their time for three-year terms and meet monthly to provide guidance and oversight to the agency in the fulfillment of its mission. The board should be broadly representative of the community and Directors have historically represented business, education, disability and other human services. • Come Celebrate the Ribbon Cutting for the new Playground and new Nursery and our 10 year anniversary.  There will be a Carnival for kids to have fun with hotdogs and drinks for all. Saturday, November 6 at 11 am until 3 pm at Wescare Child Care Center. This is  for past and present Wescare kids and their parents to come have fun with us!

• The Goldston Book Club will meet Monday, November 1 at 11 am at the Goldston Library (note time change). This meeting will be the completion of Nicholas Sparks’ book, The Notebook. There will be no meeting in December. We invite all who enjoy reading and lively discussion to join us.

• Every Monday at 6:30 pm for the month of November, Narcotics Anonymous meetings will be held at Alston Chapel Church.

• Cub Country, fronted by Chapel Hill local Jeremy Chatelain, will be playing November 12 at Bynum General Store. Also playing is Bynum’s own Emily Waszak. The show will begin at 7 pm. For more information, call (919) 542-1858.

• Ride the New Hope Valley Railway Halloween Trains! Come spend a spooky evening in the woods with us. This one night each year the woods along the railroad are filled with witches, goolies, ghosties, and things that go bump in the night! The train takes you right through it all, making it a fun way to start your Halloween celebrations. Trains run Saturday, October 30 at 4 pm, 5:15, 6:30 and 7:45, all departing from the depot in Bonsal. Further details & directions are available at www.nhvry.org or calling the depot 919-362-5416. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

• The Sanford Brush and Palette Club will host its 40th anniversary Fall Show and Sale, Saturday, October 30, through Sunday, November 7 at the Lee County Parks and Recreation Dept. Hales Center (Sanford’s old armory) at 147 McIver Street. Open from 10 am to 8 pm, Monday through Saturday: Sunday, 10-31 from 1 pm to 6;  and Sunday, 11-7 from 1 to 3 pm. Admission is free. The public is invited.

• Jordan Lake, Friday Walking Series, October 29, meet a park ranger at 2 pm at Vista Point Blue Trail (near entrance) – 1.3 mi – flat. November 5, meet to walk New Hope Trail, 2.7 mi – hilly. Wear appropriate shoes and dress for the weather.
