Rain, Pamlico dumps Jets 42-21

By Don Beane

BAYBORO – It was fitting here on Friday night that Jordan-Matthews faced a team nicknamed the Hurricanes.

From start to finish, the 12th-seeded Jets and 5th-seeded Pamlico slugged it out in a relentless downpour before the stronger and more experienced Golden Hurricanes punched in two fourth quarter touchdowns to seal the deal in an entertaining 42-21 victory in opening round action of the 1AA NCHSAA state playoffs.

The Jets conclude the season at 5-7 while Pamlico moves on to take a 9-3 record into its second round match up with James Kenan of Warsaw.

For Jordan-Matthews on Friday night, you couldn’t have asked for a worse-case scenario. The monsoon-like conditions certainly played into the hands of the bigger Cane squad, who shifted into a wishbone set and ran the ball right at the smaller Jet defense with an assortment of powerful backs.

J-M, CC make history

A lot has changed since the Carolina Panthers won their last football game.

Not just in sports, but in the world in general.

First of all, the Panthers won their last game on September 12th, in Kansas City during week two of the NFL season.

The USA was in the middle of a heated presidential race that many thought would go right down to the wire.

Although it remained heated until November 2nd, George W. Bush got re-elected rather comfortably over John Kerry, keeing his seat in the Oval Office for four more years.

The baseball playoffs were also about to start with talk of this team from Boston trying to break this curse from 86 years ago against this other team from New York City.

As it turned out, the Red Sox made history against the Yankees by winning four in a row after losing three straight, then went to the World Series and swept the St. Louis Cardinals for their first championship since 1918.
