• The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at Perry Harrison School on Tuesday, May 11 from 2 pm to 6:30. Adults are encouraged to come and donate blood during this time. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the school at 967-9925. |

• Northwood High School Awards Day will be held May 17 at 8:30 am at the Charger Stadium. Students will be awarded for academic, scholastic, and talent abilities. Family members of students are encouraged to come. |

• Chatham County Public Health Department and Community Diabetes Advocates are holding a diabetes support goup on May 10 at 6:30 pm at Family Resource Center, 225 Chatham Square, Siler City. The topic will be kidney diseases and diabetes with guest speaker, nephrologists, Dr. Margaret Kiser of UNC Healthcare. Discussion of challenges of living with diabetes after the presentation. |

• Chatham Marketplace, a co-op grocery opening in Pittsboro in the fall, is currently accepting nominations for two consumer-owner seats on our Board of Directors. The term is three years. Nominees must be owners of Chatham marketplace. Nomination cut-off is May 30. Elections will take place at our Annual Meeting on Thursday, July 22. For more information, call 919-545-9854. |

• Osteoarthritis of the lumbar spine affects over one million Americans. Treatment ranges from physical therapy and exercise to sometimes- unavoidable surgery depending on the severity of the case. If you have been diagnosed, there are many things that you can do to supplement care from your doctor. The American Arthritis Society has compiled useful and practical tips for self-care and has made them available on their website, www.americanarthritis.org. |

• American Red Cross announces its Siler City Classes for May, to be held at the Siler City Presbyterian Church. Adult CPR, Monday, May 17; Infant & Child CPR, Tuesday, May 18, and First Aid, Thursday, May 20. All classes are from 6 pm to 9:30. Pre-registration and payment is required. • Free Car Wash for Senior Citizens (50 and older); a community service project for Chatham County youth working with the Joint Orange-Chatham Community Action (JOCCA), Saturday, May 8, 9 am to 4 pm in the Central Carolina Bank Parking Lot in Pittsboro (off old 64 beside the Pittsboro Memorial Library. |

• NC ECHO (Exploring Cultural Heritage Online) and the Federation of North Carolina Historical Societies are sponsoring a workshop on fundraising and grant writing for cultural organizations to be held Tuesday, May 18 at the Presbyterian Church in Pittsboro. • Northwood High School Guidance Department is looking for test prodtors to help administer end-of-course tests at Northwood High School on May 26,27, and 28. Anyone from the community who is interested in assisting should contact the Northwood Guidance Department at (919) 542-5877. Proctors are needed all three mornings from 8 am to 10:35 and Thursday from 11:25 to 2 pm. Needed are from 12 to 17 proctors per session. |

• Pre-School Storytime will be held every Wednesday, 10 am until 11 at Spectacle Books, 113 Siler Crossing Shopping Center, Siler City. |

• Letter Carriers Food Drive will be held Saturday, May 8, 2004. The National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the USPS will be collecting non-perishable food items like canned soup, juice, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice to help families in need in our community. Place your food donation at your mailbox before your letter carrier arrives. Your carrier will take it to the Post Office, and it will then be delivered to a local food bank or pantry. Please do not include any glass or perishable items. |

• The Northwood Choral Department will have its annual spring concert on Thursday, may 13, a 7 p.m. in the Benjamin Lee Auditorium on the Northwood High School campus. The Concert Chorus, Lyric Ensemble, and Northwood chorale will perform under the direction of choral director Troy Price. There is no admission cost and the general public is invited to attend. |

• The Northwood Concert Band will be performing its Memorial Day concert on Tuesday, may 18 at 7 pm in the school auditorium. |
