• Sunday, May 23 at 3 pm, UNC Hospice will hold its Spring Memorial Service at their office, Pittsboro Business Center (formerly Chatham Mills), 480 Hillsboro Street, Suite 800. Hospice patients who have died since the last memorial will be remembered. All residents of Chatham County are invited and will be given the opportunity to remember their loved ones who have died, whether they were Hospice patients or not. | • On May 22 the House in the Horsehoe will be offering a class in 18th and 19th century samplers. A two-hour class to begin at 10 am. Cost is $10 (all materials provided), space is limited, register at 910-947-2051. |
| • Chatham County Historical Society will present “Of Grave Concerns” on Sunday, May 16 at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Pittsboro at 3 p.m. John W. Clauser, Jr., retired state archaeologist, will be the speaker. Open to all. For directions, call 542-1735. |
| • Chatham County Center of the NC Cooperative Extension Service will offer a micro-irrigation workshop as part of its Enhancing Sustainability Series on Monday, May 17 from 7 – 9 pm in the auditorium of the Agricultural Building in Pittsboro. Program will have something for farmers, gardeners, nursery operators, greenhouse growers, and pasture managers. Workshop is $10 to cover materials. Deadline for registration is May 14. | • The Siler City Business and Professional Women’s Club will meet at 6:30 pm, Thursday, May 13 at Bestfood Cafeteria Banquet Room. Scholarship recipients will be announced and new officers installed. Guests are welcome. |
| • Registration for summer short session classes is set for Thursday, June 1, in the Student Services Center on the Asheboro Campus from 9 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 6:30. Short session classes begin Tuesday, June 15. These are general education credit classes that can be transferred to another school, perfect for students enrolled at other colleges who want to take a summer class while at home, or before they go away to college. • The Randolph Arts Guild will hold a yard sale on Saturday, May 22 from 8 am until…at 415 Railroad Street directly behind Bossong Hosiery off Cherry Street. Preview event will take place Friday, May 21 at the site.
