• Pre-School Storytime at McIntyre’s Fine Books & Bookends at Fearrington, every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

• Chatham Arts and The Friends of the Pittsboro Memorial Library will hold a reception for "The Kite and the Veil, Chatham Artists Speak of Afghanistan", Sunday, March 6, noon to 5 pm at the Chatham Arts gallery and 3 to 6 pm at the library. The event is part of the Community Read of The Kite Runner. A total of 30 pieces have been entered in the exhibit.
• The Friends of the Pittsboro Memorial Library will sponsor a Burrito Bash on Monday, March 7, starting at 6 pm at the General Store Café. All proceeds wil benefit the Community Read and library programs. Special entertainment by Jaafar, Middle Eastern jazz fusion band.
• A meeting will be held at 7:00 pm on March 10 at the Chatham County Community College, Building 2, Pittsboro Campus to inform the public on "Black Box Voting". Guest speakers for the forum are David Allen, Systems Engineer; Chuck Herrin, professional computer hacker, advocate for paper ballots in the electoral process; and Justin Moore, computer scientist, member of the National Committee for Voting Integrity will explain the issues on Black Box voting and answer any questions the media may have prior to the community event which begins at 7:00 p.m.

• Author Event at McIntyre’s, Saturday, March 5, at 11 a.m., .Elizabeth Flock will read from her novel, Me & Emma; Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m., Nicholas Delbanco will read from his latest novel, The Vagabonds. For details, call 919-542-3030 or www.fearrington.com.

• In the second of a free lecture series sponsored by the Chatham County Historical Association, Margaret Pollard will talk about the Gorgas community at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 3, in the historic county courthouse in Pittsboro.
• Chatham County’s Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) will meet Wednesday (03-02-05) night at 6:30 in the Dunlap classroom in Pittsboro. Call 542-5516 if you have any questions.
• The friends of the Pittsboro Memorial Library announce the third in a series of discussions of the Community Read of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini on Thursday, March 1- from 7 to 8:30 pm at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. The discussion leader is Janet Ray Edwards, teacher and writer. Call the library at 542-3524 for more information.
• Chatham County Together! Volunteer orientation and training session will be held Saturday, March 5 from 9 as to 12 noon at Chatham New School in Pittsboro. Those interested in working one-on-one with youth as a mentor or tutor or wanting involvement in activities should attend. A continental breakfast will be provided. • The Moring Arts Center presents an exhibition of sculptural work by Jim Barnhill. The show opens with a reception for the artist on Tuesday, March 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 and continues through March 31. The Center is located at 123 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Gallery hours are 9-5, Monday through Friday and 10-2 on Saturday. The gallery is open to the public at no charge. For further information or driving directions, call 336-629-0399.

• The Chatham County Soil and Water Conservation District will meet on Thursday, March 10 at 7:30 pm in the Conference room downstairs in the Agricultural Building in Pittsboro. This is an open meeting. For additional information, call 919-542-8240.

• On March 6 (first Sunday in each month), local art exhibits in downtown Pittsboro. Stores open from noon to 5 p.m. Call 919-545-9296 with questions
• Music at Reno’s, March 5 features Gospel music (new format means anyone can play and/or sing Gospel music together in an open jam setting). (Acoustic instruments only). From 10 am til tired. Free and Open to the public. Located at Reno Sharpe’s Store, on the corner of Goldston-Pittsboro Rd and Reno Sharpe Store Rd between Pittsboro and Goldston.
