• The “Millworker” (relates joys and sorrows of Piedmont NC cotton mill employees of the ‘30’s) will be presented Friday and Saturday, April 2 & 3 at 8 pm and Sunday, April 4 at 3 pm by Central Carolina Community College at the Chatham Mills Site, Hillsboro Street, Pittsboro. Lots of roots music will be performed by local artists. |
| • The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Relay for Life team is having a Pancake Supper on Saturday, March 27 at the Pittsboro Kiwanis Hut at 309 Credle St in Pittsboro, from 5 pm to 7:30 for a minimum donation of $5. All you care to eat pancakes, bacon, tea, coffee and juice. A variety of note cards displaying scenes from across Chatham County will also be on sale. All proceeds go to Relay for Life, American Cancer Society. Call 929-542-4988 if you have any questions. |
| • Voices for Action presents the Lincoln Heights Neighborhood Clean-up, Saturday, March 27 at 11 am. (rain date, 4-3 at 11). Meet at the Washington Park Picnic Shelter. Join your neighbors to help restore pride to Lincoln Heights. Garbage sticks and trash bags will be provided. Bring your own gloves. After the clean-up, join us for an old-fashioned neighborhood cookout. For more information, contact Frankye Alston at 742-3146. |
| • The Jordan_Matthews High School Gospel Choir will be hosting a benefit service on Saturday, March 27 at 6 pm at Unity Power House Holiness Church on Stockyard Road in Siler City. Guest choirs will be Voices United of Siler City, Traveling Sons of Pittsboro, Wesley Chapel Young Adult Choir of Asheboro, Mothers & Daughters in Christ Dancers , the Jordan-Matthews High School Gospel Choir and others. Come out and support JMHS Gospel Choir. |
| • CCCC Pittsboro Campus will hold “Poetry Writing”, a class to explore the art of writing poetry. They will discuss traditional, contemporary, and non-traditional forms on poetry. Students will be guided through several writing exercises designed to help them find their own poetic style. Class Saturday, April 3 at 9 am to 12 pm. Tuition is $34. | • CCCC will hold their annual furniture auction Saturday, April 3 at the Harnett County campus in Lillington. Over 25 hand-crafted items will be sold. Variety of items include entertainment center, curio cabinet, five-piece bedroom suite, rocking horse, dining room set, and jewelry chest. View pieces from 10 am until auction begins at 1 pm. Proceeds benefit student scholarships. |
| • The Chatham Central PTSA will meet Monday, March 29 in Polly Yow Auditorium. The SAVE Club will be presenting a Spring Fashion Show. Support your local school. |
| • The Sanford area, Society of Shaggers, will host “Shagging in the Sandhills’ at the Sanford Elks Club, Saturday, March 27 from 8 pm to midnight. All profits will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation and other local charities. Club located at 910 Carthage St. – Admission, $5 in advance, $8 per person or $15 per couple at the door. |
| • N.C. House Speaker, Jim Black will appear in Siler City, April 1, 2004 from 5:30 pm to 7 at Bestfood Cafeteria at a campaign fundraiser for Representative Joe Hackney, House Democratic leader. Suggested contribution for the Joe Hackney for House Committee is $25. |
