• Chatham Hospital’s Annual Relay for Life Bake Sale will be held Thursday, March 24 from 8 am until on the hospital ground floor.

• The Silk Hope Ruritan Club will hold its American Red Cross blood drive on Friday, March 25 from 2:30 until 7 pm at the Silk Hope Ruritan Club building located at 8110 Silk Hope-Gum Springs Road, Siler City. Several double red cell machines will be available for those who wish to donate red cells and be credited with giving two units for this procedure. Free t-shirts for those giving a unit of blood. • Open Bluegrass Pickin’on Saturday, March 19 from 10 am  until … at Reno Sharpe’s Store, on the corner of Goldston-Pittsboro Road and Reno Sharpe Store Road between Pittsboro and Goldston. Pickers, bring your instrument (Acoustic instruments only). Free and open to the public.
• The Chapel Hill Bird Club will hold its monthly meeting at 7:15 pm, Monday, March 28 at the lounge of the Binkley Baptist Church. The speaker will be Tom Driscoll who will talk about the Birds of Ecuador. Church is located at the corner of the 15/501 by-pass and Willow Drive. Call Judy Murray, 942-2985 with questions.
• On Saturday, March 19 at 11 am, Jean Anderson will read from her latest cookbook, Quick Loaves at McIntyre’s Fine Books and Book Ends. She will also discuss “How to Write a Cookbook”. On Wednesday, March 23, at 7 pm, Ann Ross will read from her latest, Miss Julia Meets Her Match”. Readings are free and open to the public. For more information, call 919-542-3030.
• Moncure Blood Drive & Health Fair, Saturday, March 19, 9 am to 2 pm at Moncure Vol. Fire Dept. All services are free to the public. Vision screenings, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, cholesterol checks and  children’s finger printing. Nelson & Nelson Chiropractor, Dr. Jeffrey Love, dentist, and massage & respirator therapists from Sandhills Community College will be present, along with representatives from many other agencies. There will also be a hot dog and bake sale.
• Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, The Sustainable Agriculture Program at CCCC and Chatham Marketplace invite you to a double feature on farming in America Today. My Father’s Garden is a powerful testament to the destructive legacy of chemical farming in America. Standing at the Crossroads puts a human face on the sustainable agriculture movement by exploring the histories, hopes, and challenges of three native North Carolina farm families. • The Randolph Arts Guild invites anyone for green tea on St. Patrick’s Day, 3-4 pm,  Thursday March 17 at the Moring Arts Center, 123 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. • March 25 and 26, Bluegrass Roundup, a bluegrass perform-ance competition with category prizes and a grand prize of a CD recording, at the Sunset Theater in downtown Asheboro. For more information, call 336-879-3459.
• On Friday, March 18 at 8 pm, the Raleigh’s Woman’s Prison Repertory Company will perform Woman in Prison – From the Inside Out at The Barn at Fearrington. Donations will be requested with  all proceeds going to support the program.
• NC Charter High School, Saxapahaw will be holding Open House and an Art Show and Ice Cream Social Saturday, March 19 from 1 to 4 pm. Students from all school districts are welcome. Call 336-376-1122 with questions. 
• “Chatham County in Colonial Times” will be presented by Gene Brooks at 7:30 pm in the historic courthouse, Pittsboro, on Thurs-day, March 17. This is the third of five lectures sponsored by the Chatham County Historical Association. For more infor-mation, call 542-1735.
• The “Angels in the Outfield” Relay for Life Team will be having a ham biscuit breakfast as well as a huge yard sale on Saturday, March 19 beside Moncure Volunteer Fire Dept. in Moncure, from 8 am to 12 noon. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
• Marigolds Bloom will be shown in the Sunset Theatre on March 18-19 at 7:30 pm, and a Sunday matinee on March 20 at 2:30 pm. This film was shot in 2004 in Randolph County with over 500 local extras.
