Hamlet bombarded Chatham County with run after run to win the game decisively. The All-Star team from Chatham did come back to make it to the finals Monday night where they lost to the same Hamlet team they played on Saturday.

Chatham County Loses in finals

BEAR CREEK – After four days of baseball at Ronald Scott Field, it was apparent that the title in the District 1 Babe Ruth League 15 & under All-Star Tournament was going to go through Hamlet.

For the Chatham County All-Stars to beat a Hamlet squad that was averaging over 10 runs a game, it would have to be at its best.

On Monday night, CC played pretty close to their best, and it still wasn’t enough as Hamlet scored all the runs it needed, winning 7-0, claiming the weekend tournament with a perfect 5-0 record.

"A couple of breaks, and we could have made the game a little closer, but I’m proud of the way the guys played," said CC coach Charles Stackhouse.

United Eagles pound Cizzlers

By Don Beane

ASHEBORO – It’s no secret that the United Eagles have been the hottest team in the Greensboro Palomino League of late.

On Monday night at Scott Rush Field in Asheboro, the Eagles remained hot, thumping Chatham County 13-3 in six-innings.

The league-leading Eagles improve to 14-6 in the GPL and to 23-8 overall with just one game remaining in the regular season.

The Cizzlers, meanwhile, continue to head in the opposite direction, losing for the 13th time in its last 15 outings.

Once again errors and walks ruined any opportunity for the locals to pull out a win, especially against the first-place Eagles.

Chatham County committed five fielding and throwing miscues on the evening, and coupled with five walks and 12 hits, the Cizzlers fell further and further behind.

The United Eagles erupted for four runs in its opening at-bat behind singles from Justin Owens, Jon Luffman and Spencer Henderson, and a two-run double by Jeremy Payne.

Trailing 4-0, Chatham County plated a pair of runs in the fourth inning when Cole Hudson stroked a leadoff single and Evan Johnson launched a two-run homer to left.
