Thomasville, leader of the pack, moves to 8-0 in YVC

By Don Beane

THOMASVILLE – Jordan-Matthews entered Wednesday nights contest with Thomasville hoping to upset the league-leading Bulldogs and to draw a game closer in the race for the Yadkin Valley 1A crown.

Those hopes by the Jets were dashed quickly, however, as Thomasville blew the game open with key spurts in the second and third quarter to race away with an impressive 62-43 win.

The Bulldogs improve to 8-0 in league play with the triumph and to 10-3 overall, while Jordan-Matthews fall to 4-3 in the Yadkin Valley and to 6-8 overall.

Jordan-Matthews opened the game trading blow for blow with Thomasville.

It was clear from the start, however, that the locals would struggle with its lack of depth against the deep Bulldog squad.

Michael McMaster, who finished the contest with a game-high 27 points, collected three baskets in the first eight minutes of play.

Lady Bears adjust on defense, win big over Mustangs

By Eliot Duke

BEAR CREEK – After falling behind North Moore 18-12 in the first half, Chatham Central coach Gerald Binkley made a few adjustments to his Lady Bears squad.

Binkley decided to change up his defense in order to create easier scoring chances for his offense. The move worked to perfection as CC more than doubled their first half total following the intermission, leaving North Moore behind in a 42-29 win.

"We struggled offensively," Binkley said. "In the second half, we played much better defense – lots of zone."

Dameron pumps in 20 leads Lady Jets to win

By Don Beane

NORWOOD – Jennifer Dameron pumped in 20 points here on Friday night to lead Jordan-Matthews to an important 46-40 road win over South Stanly in Yadkin Valley 1A hoops action.

With the game knotted at 30-30 heading into the fourth, things didn’t look good for the Jets when star forward Brittany Hurt fouled out at the 6:25 minute mark after quickly scoring four points in the frame.

"Losing Brittany early in the fourth definitely hurt us," said Stutts. "She’s averaging 14 points a game and was heating up after a slow start. You have to give the other girls credit, especially Jennifer (Dameron), for stepping up in her absence."

Dameron stepped up big for the Jets to say the least as the freshman guard notched nine points in the frame on 9-of-10 shooting from the foul line. Her success at the foul line translated in the Jet win without question as the locals pulled away for the 46-40 win.
