•Grassroots Biodiesel Conference, January 28-29,  at CCCC, Pittsboro campus. The event will focus on Biodiesel education, Biodiesel consumers’ issues, and support for local biofuels endeavors. The event will help network consumers, small producers, educators, and activists from across America. Piedmont Biofuels – mailto:rachel@biofuels.coop or 919-542-2900.

• Special Olympics Orange County seeks volunteer swim coaches for its 2005 winter/spring school-based swim program. Training session will be held Wednesday, 01-26-05 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Chapel Hill Community Center on Estes Drive. For more information or to register, call Colleen Lanigan, Special Olympics County Coordinator, at 968-2787, ext 204 or clanigan@townofchapelhill.org by Monday, January 31.
• Siler City Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast on Saturday, February 12 from 7 am until 11 am at the First United Methodist Church. Tickets are $5.00. Proceeds  will be used by the Lions Club for activities helping the sight and hearing impaired. (This replaces the Kiwanis Club (that has gone inactive) Valentine’s breakfast.
• Chatham County Together! Volunteer Mentor Training will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29 from 9 am to 12 noon at Corinth AME Zion Church (next to Sage Academy), 491 Martin Luther King Blvd, Siler City. Call 542-5155 for more information or to reserve a spot.
• JMHS Gospel Choir is having a county wide talent show on Sat., 01-28-05 at 6 pm . Special guests are the Alpha Phi Chapter of alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Step Team and the Hip Hop Dancers of Asheboro. Admission is $3.00. The high school with the highest attendance will win a prize and bragging rights for being the most spirited school. Come and support Chatham County Schools.
• Parent Empowerment Program offers free programs to support parents. Upcoming events begin with Injury Prevention Game for parents of infants and toddlers on January 20, 6-7:30 pm. Contact Susan Mulder at the Chatham County Public Health Department for more information at 919-545-8399. Child care is available.
 • The Family Advocacy Program of Chatham County Together invites all county residents who would like to hear about The Arc, and who may be interested in helping to start a chapter of The Arc in Chatham County to an informational meeting being held January 27 at 6:30 pm in Siler City. The Arc is an advocacy organization that works with and for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Free pizza and childcare provided. • A Place to Take Root: The History of Flowerpots and Garden Containers in American, the first exhibition to document the evolution of the common flower pot, will open with a public reception at the N.C. Pottery Center on February 4, 6-8 p.m. and will run through March 26. An exhibit on the History of Horticultural Ware in N.C. will also be on display.
