• Bynum Ruritan Club  is sponsoring a Dumplings and BBQ Chicken meal on January 22, 4:00 pm until 7. For more information, call Karen Webster at 542-6931.

• The Randolph County Health Department will be making flu shots available to those most at risk for complications due to the flu on Friday, January 14 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 146 South Fayetteville Street, Liberty from 10 am to 1 pm. The flu shots will be offered free of charge to only those in the high- risk categories. If you have questions about whether you qualify for a flu shot, call 336-218-4200.  It’s not too late to get a flu shot. Flu season usually doesn’t peak until late February.

• Lodges in the 26th district will be meeting Saturday, January 15 at 10:00 am at Mt. Herman AME Zion Church, Goldston (across from J.S. Waters School). Past Master Jeff Person from Bear Creek Lodge #324, Robbins will provide a workshop entitled “Making Plans For My Last Rites.” All masons are asked to attend and  be Masonic dressed. New officers will be installed and pictures will be made.

• The Council of Churches of Siler City will be holding the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration to be held at Jordan-Matthews  High School, Monday, January 17, at 7:00 pm in the school auditorium. The keynote speaker will be Henry E. Frye of Counsel, a former Supreme Court Judge of North Carolina.
• The Carolina Mountain Dulcimer Players will meet in the ground floor Community Room at Carol Woods in Chapel Hill on Thursday, January 20 (and every third Thursday), at 7:00 pm. • Girls Scouts in Chatham County will take part in the annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program from now until March 13. Cookie sales are used to fund group and council activities, camping scholarships and volunteer training. • The exhibit at the Pittsboro Memorial Library for January and February is the internationally acclaimed show, “The Afghan Folio: documentary photos of Luke Powell”. The exhibit is a collection of thirty-two dye transfer prints of people and places in Afghanistan. The library is located at 158 West Street, one black west of the Chatham County Courthouse. • Family storytelling event, “Lacey Web Tales” with two local artists dedicated to keeping the art of storytelling alive, Janet Harllee and Betty Foust at the Moring Arts Center on Saturday, January 22 from 1-2 pm in the main gallery. The public is welcome, admission is free, and reservations are appreciated. Call 336-629-0399.

• Randolph Arts Guild is sponsoring a 12-day trip to Spain in October, 2005. Sunday, 01-06-05 at 2:30 pm, Connie Fortanbary, a district manager for Collette Vacations,  will speak at the Moring Arts Center, 123 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro,  to those curious about making the journey to this ancient and arts-rich land. The information session and trip, now in formation, is open to the general public.

• The first tea program of 2005 will be held at Moring Arts Center on Tuesday, January 18 from 3-4 pm. Guest Leonard Day will advise attendees on how to keep their heirlooms and collectibles in mint condition. He is a certified art restorationist and appraiser being certified in paintings, textiles, porcelains and furniture. No appraisals will be conducted during this event.
