• More than 400 volunteers needed for Special Olympics Basketball Tournament in Greenville, March 19-21. Interested individuals should call the SONC Volunteer Hotline at 80-843-6276, option 4. |

• The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom will hold its next meeting on February 14th at the Friends Meeting House of Raleigh Road in Chapel Hill at 10 a.m. The meeting will feature Betty Katz, Orange County Democratic party representative. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion. Free and open to the public. |

• The Pittsboro Relay for Life Committee announces the kickoff of our third annual Pittsboro Relay, Monday, February 9, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the Chatham County Council on Aging, NC Hwy 87, Pittsboro. All cancer survivors are invited to join us 30 minutes earlier at 6:30 p.m. for a special reception in your honor. Please RSVP by February 5th to 542-2819. • Auditions for Star Search 2004 will be held at the Moring Arts Center, Asheboro Wednes-day, February 18, 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, February 21, 2-4 p.m. All types of talent are welcome. • The Second Annual Fearrington Folk Art Festival will be held February 21 and 22, 2004 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Browse the selection of art and meet the guest artists. Paintings, paper-maiche objects, garden art, sculptures, furniture and ornaments will be exhibited and sold at the show to benefit the artists directly. Local musician Captain Luke will perform at the show, which is free and open to the public. |

• The Kiwanis Club will sponsor their 13th annual Pancake Jamboree, February 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Siler City from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tickets may be purchased from any Kiwanian or at the door. $5 for adults, (eat-in-breakfast only free for children under six). Take out orders are available. Gospel Light will sing at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. |

• The diabetes support group will meet February 9 at Family Resource Center, 225 Chatham Square, Siler City, 6:30-8:00 p.m. The theme will be Heart Health. • A Golf Privilege Card from the American Lung Association of N.C. is available, February 1 – 14, for free or reduced green fees at over 300 courses in NC, SC, and Va. - over 700 rounds of golf. • The National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina has announced the 2004 2nd annual Pinehurst Cadillac Invitational Golf Classic. The weekend event is Friday, August 13th through Sunday August 15th . Sunday’s tourn-ament will be played on Pinehurst’s Course #2.
