By Mary John Resch This Brownie Trifle would be a wonderful dessert to prepare for Valentine’s Day and because it makes a lot, you will have enough to share with several special people. I did use the Kahlua when I prepared this and it definitely adds depth and richness to the flavor but it is not absolutely necessary. You should prepare this at least 24 hours before you plan to serve it to allow the flavors to blend – we tried ours after about 6 hours and it was good but was much better the next day and for several days after.
I did not use my Trifle bowl but a clear glass bowl that was 8 ˝ inches in diameter and 4 inches deep. I divided my brownies into thirds and found that after I had prepared 2 layers of each ingredient, my bowl was full to the top. I used the remaining ingredients to fill a bowl that was 6 ˝ inches in diameter and 3 inches deep.
This really is a good recipe to prepare when you need to serve a lot of people.
BROWNIE TRIFLE(Serves 16)
1 19.8-ounce package Fudge Brownie mix ˝ cup Kahlua (optional) 3 3.9-ounce packages chocolate instant pudding mix 4 cups milk 1 12-ounce container of frozen whipped topping, thawed 6 English toffee-flavored candy bars (Heath or Skor), crushed or an 8-oz. bag of Heath Milk Chocolate Toffee Bits.
Prepare and bake brownie mix in a 13x9-inch pan. Prick top of warm brownies with a toothpick and brush with Kahlua. Cool brownies and crumble into small pieces.
Prepare 3 packages of pudding mix, using a total of 4 cups of milk instead of 6 and omitting chilling procedure.
Place 1/3 of crumbled brownies in a 3-quart trifle dish or clear bowl. Top with 1/3 each of pudding, whipped topping, and crushed candy bars.
Repeat layers twice using remaining ingredients, ending with the crushed candy bars. Cover and chill before serving. |
