• The Goldston Book Club will meet Monday, January 3 at 11 am at the Goldston Library. The selection to be discussed is Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind by Ann B. Ross. The February book will be To Kill A Mockingbird. Very casual group. Feel free to join us. |
| • The Chatham Medical Reserve Corps in partnership with CCCC will be hosting its next monthly education conference on January 11 from 4-7 pm in the multi-purpose room of the CCCC Pittsboro Campus. Seating will be open to the public once MRC, CERT, Citizen Corps Council members and First Responder seats have been filled. This month’s conference will focus on Winter storms: Ice, Snow and Freezing Rain Response: Scenario of Home and Neighbor Safety in Weather Isolation. Presenters will be Progress Energy, National Weather Service and our local EOC. Interested participants may register by e-mail to trainings@chathammrc.org. |
| • The Waste Management Division, located at 720 County Landfill Road (6 miles west of Pittsboro off Hwy 64) will be open on Saturday January 8 from 9 am to 3 pm for clean yard waste (including Christmas trees), tires, scrap metal & inert debris. $20/ton for yard waste & inert debris - $2 minimum charge. Reminder: Christmas trees are not accepted at collection centers!!! |

• Randolph Arts Guild and Randolph County Public Library will host Gary Paben, speaking at the Randolph County Public Library in Asheboro on Thursday, January 6 at 7 pm. His lecture will feature an overview of some of his favorite lifetime projects, supplemented by video clips. He will speak on how he created one of his latest works: A Tivoli Fairy Tale, for the upcoming Hans Christians Andersen 2005 worldwide celebration of the writer’s bicentenary. The event is free and open to the public and will take place in the Community Room of the library located at 201 Worth Street. For directions, call (336) 318-6800. |
| • The January 4-28 exhibit in the Main Gallery of the Moring Arts Center, Asheboro will be Woodland Lace by Judith West. A reception for the artist will be held on Tuesday, January 4 from 5:30 – 7:30. Gallery hours are 10-5, Monday through Friday and Saturday, 10-2. Exhibit is open to the public at no charge. | • Bring in the New Year Hike!, January 8, 9. Join a park ranger on a one-mile hike on Ebenezer Church Trail. Meet at the trailhead (in the back corner of the Ebenezer Beach parking lot) at 11 a.m. |
