MRS. JEAN FLETCHER MCCLELLAND Mrs. Jean Fletcher McClelland, 84, of Pittsboro Christian Village, died Tuesday (12/16/03) at Pittsboro Christian Village following a period of declining health. She was a native of Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday (12-19-03) in the chapel at Pittsboro Christian Village. Interment followed in Chatham Memorial Park. Survivors include her husband Clark McClelland; sons, Robert Earl McClelland of Furlong, Pa., Roger Clark McClelland of Shrewsbury, Mass., Fletcher Kirk McClelland of Watkinsville, Ga.; daughter, Rhonda Jean Romine of Bolton, Mass., sister, Agnes Milan of Cleveland, Ohio and ten grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the Benevolent fund of Pittsboro Christian Village, 1825 East Street, Pittsboro, N.C. 27312. MATT SCOTT MORRIS-WINSLOW Matthew Scott Morris-Winslow, 21, 3039 Mack Lineberry Road, Franklinville, died Wednesday (12-17-03) at Asheboro. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (12/20/03) at Big Oak Church of God in Star, with Rev. Dean Wolfe and Rev. Dan Neely, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Matt was a native of Randolph County and worked at Thomasville Interiors. He attended Asheboro High School and Victory Fellowship Church. Survivors include father and stepmother, Greg and Joy Winslow of Asheboro; mother, Suewana Morris of Siler City; stepmother, Rhonda Shaw of Randleman; half sister, Stephanie Shaw of Randleman, half brother, Justin Greene of Randleman; Grandmothers, Ruth Morris of the home, and Susan Brown of Randleman; grandfather and step-grandmother, Bobby and Margaret Morris of Conway, S.C. GERTRUDE BLACK BRAFFORD Gertrude Black Brafford, 95, of 2151 Goldston-Carbonton Road, Goldston died Saturday (12-20-03) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (12-23-03) at Center United Methodist Church, Sanford by Rev. Richard Farmer, Rev. Ray Gooch, and Rev. James Whittaker. Burial followed in the church cemetery. . Mrs. Brafford was a native of Lee County and a homemaker. She was a member of Center United Methodist Church. Survivors are daughter, Shirley B. Hart of Goldston; sons, Tommy Brafford of Level Cross and Dale Brafford of Wingate; sister, Nanny Spivey of Tramway; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren. STALEY Diffie Wade Staley, 76, of 554 Frazier Rd., Ramseur died Saturday (12-20-03) at the Randolph Hospital in Asheboro. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday (12-23-03) at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church by Rev. Billy Chriscoe. Burial followed in the church cemetery. . Mr. Staley was a native of Randolph County and retired from Weiman Furniture Co. Survivors include wife, Martha Rose Staley of the home; sons, Anthony Staley and Benjamin Staley, both of Ramseur; Harry Staley and Timothy Staley, both of Franklinville; daughter, Janice Seawell of Seagrove; sisters, Thadea Maness of Seagrove and Inez Davis of Franklinville; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. MRS. EMMA JULIA RAMSEY SMITH Mrs. Emma Julia Ramsey Smith, 72, of Staley died Saturday (12-20-03) at her home. Mrs. Smith was a native of Rockingham County. Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday (12-23-03) at White Cross Baptist Church with Rev. Troy Brown. Burial followed in Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery. Surviving are daughters Frances A. Boyck, Katie R. Collins of Maxton, and Linda S. Jenkins of Staley; sons, Marshall D. ”Red” Smith of Graham, Willard Eugene Smith and Roger D. Smith both of Liberty, and Pete Smith of Staley; 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. |
KATHY DIXON FOUSHEE Kathy Diane Dixon Foushee, 51, of 1671 Vander Oldham Road, Bear Creek died Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at Sun Bridge Care Facilities in Siler City. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2003 at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City conducted by Rev. Ray Gooch. Burial followed in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek. Mrs. Foushee was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert Foushee and father, Griffin Jim Dixon. Survivors include two sons, Jonathan E. Foushee and wife, Christy, Robert G. Foushee, all of Bear Creek; mother, Kathleen Johnson Dixon, Bear Creek; brothers Dennis Ray Dixon and wife, Kathy of Pittsboro, and Joey Dixon and wife, Phyllis of Sanford; sisters, Janice Inman and husband, Paul of Siler City, Wendy Barber and husband, Dennis of Morehead City, Valerie Nelson and husband, Todd of Bear Creek and Sandy Dixon of Goldston. AGNES SCARLETT HORTON Agnes Scarlett Horton, 62, of 193 John Horton Road, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was employed by Duke University Medical Center in the early 1960s. She has devoted the rest of her life to being a proud homemaker, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a friend to all that knew her. She was a friend to all that knew her. She was a faithful member of Bell's Baptist Church where a funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2003 . Reverend Rick Washington and Dr. Johnny Ross officiated. Burial followed in Bell's Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Horton is survived by her husband, Vossie Lee Horton; son, Todd Lee Horton and wife, Laura of Apex; grandson, John Lee Horton; and grandaughter, Elizabeth Laura Horton; mother, Louise Scarlett of Hillsboro; brothers, Ellis Scarlett, Jr of Fairfax, VA and Van Scarlett and wife, Lianne of Raleigh; sister, Sandra Melton and husband, Danny of Kernersville, NC; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. NORMAN BERRY WHITE Mr. Norman Berry White, 63, of West Street, Pittsboro, N.C. died Wednesday night, December 17, 2003, at UNC Hospitals following a period of declining health. Born March 16, 1940 in Pittsboro, he was a son of Mallie Berry and Ruby Nell Wright White. Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Norris White. He was retired from the telecommunications industry, having worked for AT&T, Chesapeake & Potomac, Bellsouth, Bell Atlantic, and Verizon. During his career he served a six month assignment at the Telephone Assessment Center in Maryland. Mr. White served in the US Air Force from 1961 to 1965, during which time he assisted in setting up communications in Viet Nam. He was very active in community relations while living in Norfolk; he also enjoyed working with the handicapped. Norm was a member of AARP, the American Legion and the VFW. He and his wife Joan moved back to Pittsboro in March, 2002. Norm was a member of Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ in Pittsboro. Surviving are his wife, Joan Langdon White, two daughters, Norma Joan White Mitchell of Southern Pines, Kimberly Renee White of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Patrick Robin Mitchell and Donovan Norry Mitchell; and a niece, Angela White Brantley, of Graham, NC. The service to celebrate the life of Mr. Norman White was conducted by Rev. Kelly Shifflet and Rev. Robert Wachs at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20 at Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ. Interment followed in the church cemetery. She was a former resident of Pittsboro and was a homemaker. Estelle was a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (12-23-2003) in the Pittsboro Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Melvin Harmon, Jr. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Surviving are daughters, Barbara Goodson of Raleigh and Janet H. Remenyik of Las Vegas, N Mex; and a brother, Henry Johnson of Deep River. |

By Mary John Resch The football season is here once again. This mix is a good one to sling together for viewers to enjoy. It would also make a good last minute Christmas gift for those of you that are still scrambling to prepare some gifts. Use your imagination to customize this to your own particular taste preferences.
BOWL FOOD Serves 20
1 (12- ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate morsels 1 (12 -ounce) package butter-scotch morsels 1 (12-ounce) package coconut or peanut butter morsels 1 (8-ounce) package chopped dates 1 (8 ¼-ounce) jar dry roasted peanuts 1 (7-ounce) jar cashew nuts 1 (15-ounce) box raisins 1 cup sesame sticks 1 (4-ounce) package sunflower seeds. Mix any or all of these ingredients together depending on what you happen to have on hand and your own taste. Store in an air-tight jar or plastic container. To give this mix a holiday look, substitute red and green M&Ms for the semi-sweet chocolate morsels. Use your imagination with this mix and come up with new combinations. |
