• The Pittsboro Library Book Club will meet on Monday, December 6 at 7 pm at the library. The book for discussion is The Bookseller of Kabul – after living for three months with a Kabul bookseller in the spring of 2002, Norwegian journalist Asne Seierstad penned an astounding portrait of a nation recovering from war, undergoing political flux and mired in misogyny and poverty. | • Students of photography at Randolph Community College will be exhibiting their work in the Main Gallery of the Moring Arts Center from December 6-30. First and second year students in this internationally recognized photography program will be included. An opening reception for the artists will take place Tuesday, December 7 from 5:30 – 7:30. Gallery hours are 9-5, Monday through Friday, 10-2 on Saturdays. Closed on Sunday. Exhibit is open to the public without charge. |
| • Chatham Arts Studio Tour Preview Exhibit: Visit the special preview exhibit of paintings, photography, textiles, pottery, jewelry, wood works and more by more than 57 Chatham County artists selected for the annual Chatham Studio Tour. Exhibit through December 12 at Chatham Arts Gallery, 115 Hillsboro Street in downtown Pittsboro. Gallery hours: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm and Sunday, noon to 5 pm. Friday, Dec. 3, studio tour reception & gallery at CCCC, Pittsboro, 7-9 pm. |
| • The Chatham County Council on Aging Travelers have planned a shopping trip to Northgate Mall in Durham on Tuesday, December 14. The van leaves Siler City at 8:30 am and Pittsboro at 9 am. Call Joann at 542-4512, ext. 231 to make your reservation. |
| • The Chatham Medical Reserve Corps and CCCC are presenting a series of continuing education conferences for volunteers of the Chatham Citizen Corps Council, Medical Reserve Corps and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT). Schools and local first responder agencies are welcome to send staff to this series of conferences on Homeland Security issues. The first conference titled Influenza: Community Safety in Scenario of Disease Pandemic Response will be held Tuesday, December 7 from 4-7 in the CCCC multi-purpose room. | • Saturday, Dec. 11 at 11 am, Clyde Edgerton and Doris Betts, will read from their stories they’ve contributed to, Christmas in the South: Holiday Stories from the South’s Best Writers and Julia Ridley Smith and Lee Smith, will be reading selections from the first volume A Very Southern Christmas, at McIntyre’s Fine Books and Book Ends. |

| • Chatham Trades, Inc. will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday, December 8 at 7 pm at the workshop, 909 Alston Bridge Road, Siler City. This year’s meeting will include a Pizza party, door prizes, tours of the workshop, a report on the past year’s activities and future plans, and election of new members for the Board of Directors. The public is encouraged to attend. Individuals interested in services to persons with disabilities are encouraged to contact the workshop at 663-3481 for more information. |
