• Chatham County Home-schoolers group will be holding a parent meeting on August 19 from 7 pm to 9 at the Pittsboro Library. Parents may share ideas about what the support and enrichment group might do during the coming school year. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for parents to discuss potential field trips and enrichment class, and provide opportunities to share and discuss homeschooling. Families of all races, religions, spiritual paths, and educational philosophies with children ages 0 through teens are welcome. For more information, contact Louise Omoto Kessel at 919-542-5599.

• U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge will speak to the Chatham NAACP meeting on Saturday, August 14 at 10 a.m. at 1401 Ross Avenue, Siler City. Etheridge will update the members on legislation pending in Congress, his work to keep our homeland safe, build a strong economy and improve North Carolina schools.

• To better serve our customers, Chatham County’s Waste Management Facility will be open for business on the third Saturday of the next four months on a trial basis as follows: August 21, September 18, October 16, and November 20. Hours of operation will be 9:00 am – 3:00 pm to coincide with our Household Hazardous Waste collection events. Call 542-5516 for more information.

• The annual Susan Found Price Reunion will be held on Saturday, September 4 at 4 p.m. at The Siler City Moose Lodge. All descendants interested in attending, please send registration forms in by August 17. For information, contact the reunion committee, the Harrison Price family members at 919-742-4696.

• NC Sandhills Peach Report, August 8-14. Harvesting will finish up this week on the old-time favorite, Georgia Belle, but the following peach varieties are available: Flame Prince, White Star, Sweet Sue O’Henry, Snow Giant (w), Fayette China Pearl (w), Georgia Belle (w), and CVN #3. Locally grown apples are still available with Gala and Ozark Gold at the markets this week.

• Chatham County Teen Court will hold a training for new volunteers on Thursday, August 12 from 6 pm to 8 in the District Courtroom in Pittsboro. All interested youth, ages 11-18 are invited to attend. For more information, call 542-4075.

•  The Southeast Chatham Citizen’s Advisory Council (SCCAC) meets every third Tuesday (August 17) at 7 pm at the Liberty-Chapel Church in Moncure. Participation of all residents, businesses and organizations within our community  is encouraged.

•  Weekend wine tasting at Fowlers of Fearrington features a free wine tasting every Saturday afternoon from 1 pm to 3 pm. Pick up tips on wine. Call 919-545-5717 for further information.

• Pre-School Storytime at McIntyre’s Fine Books & Bookends is held every Wednesday at 1-:30 am. For more information, call Sarah at (919) 542-3030.
